Well, tonight I spent most of the evening looking around the net for some cool online catalog software. There is some out there - if I want to spend an arm and a leg! Oh my - I tried to find free ones too, but they were technically 'free trials' so that didn't work either.
I was looking from my PC because that is what I am comfortable with. Luckily I do have an Ipad, so I think that is the way to go. I do not say that boldly as for now it has been an email, facetime and a facebooking device... I know it can do other really cool things - I've seen examples, I just need to experiment to see what I can do with it.
Anyway, I will look around in the App Store to see what they have to offer and hopefully I'll be able to use something there for the AT/UDL catalog. I also need to spend some time checking out the Apps to see what I think would be amazing AT resources... again I just need to become more familiar. I'm looking forward to my discoveries!! :)
Cheers!!

1st Post!!

Hi there folks! There I am visiting one of my most favourite continents - can you figure it out!??
I am blogging today to tell you about an awesome new course I just started. It is called Assistive Technology; Access to Learning and Leisure.
So far I am SUPER excited about it as I see it as very practical for in my classroom. The majority of the day we spent learning about how to make learning accessible. For instance we referred to a book (which is still being used in today's classroom) that was out of date, had very small print, and had wording that would be very difficult for some learners. Our prof (Barbara) introduced us to ways in which we can access this text and make it come alive!! That's right - once the pages were downloaded, the words could be READ to the students, and even defined - WOW!
I know I am behind the times, but I have to say I was also intrigued with Airdrop - how easy is that! The sad part though, is that I may have to get a new iPad... I mean I don't really know how to work the one I have yet, so i may as well start fresh right!! Ha! We'll see!
Other activities which I found engaging was playing around with various ipad apps. I learned how to use cloudart, strip design, and a couple of others, but most excitingly... Book Creator!! Me and my partner for the day made a book about the frog cycle. I had so much fun I thought I would play around with some free apps from the App Store just to see what I would come up with - I focused on the rock cycle. I used; Book Creator, CapDisLite, KidsDoodle, and Zoodle Comics. Right now it's pretty rusty, but I'm still learning - and having SO much fun doing it! I can't wait to learn more about these fun modes of learning that will make learning exciting and interesting for my students!
I am now going to try to upload or download the book I made - wish me luck!
Shauna
Well, I'm not figuring out how to share my book yet - and I also realized I left this in DRAFT mode - ohhh my - I'll get there people... just stay with me!!
